The OUAZ women's basketball team is back on the road on Friday as they take on SAGU American-Indian College on Friday evening. It is the only game for the Spirit this week.
OUAZ will head over to Central Phoenix for its third straight road game. The team started out the season at Park-Gilbert on Oct. 28, and at Southern Utah in an exhibition last Friday. Since the game against Southern Utah is an exhibition, the result does not count, so the Spirit head into its matchup with the Warriors 1-0 on the season.
Junior college transfer guard
Kirsten Shinske got her NAIA career off to a fast start, as she racked up 27 points to go along with eight rebounds and three steals against Park. She also shot 52.6% from the field.
Kate Sokolova was fantastic in her college debut as well. She had 18 points on 5-10 shooting (3-6 from 3PT), and had eight rebounds. She was 5-6 at the free throw line.
Despite losing by a large margin in the exhibition against Southern Utah, a few Spirit players had good nights.
Natasa Radovic had 15 points and was perfect on her free throws (6-6). She also had five rebounds and three assists.
Taylor Davis also put in 15 points to go along with three rebounds and a block in 21 minutes. She was solid with her free throws as well, hitting 7-8.
OUAZ is currently on a three-game win streak in non-conference game. Its last lost away from GSAC play was against Benedictine-Mesa on Nov. 24, 2018. The team has won 11 of its last 12 non-conference matchups dating back to the 2017-2018 season.
Friday will be the first meeting between the two programs. They will meet again at Faith Arena in Surprise on Nov. 20.
