OUAZ men's soccer is in its first season of NAIA postseason, and they will travel to Fullerton, Calif. to take on Hope International in the first round of the GSAC tournament. Kickoff is scheduled for 1pm Arizona Time.
The Spirit are hoping to find a better results the second time around against the Royals. Hope International scored in the 24', and that is all they needed to defeat OUAZ 1-0 at Spirit Field.
OUAZ will get a chance to redeem themselves, and it is in the most important game of the season. The winner of the matchup will advance to the second round of the tournament in Santa Barbara, Calif.
Three Spirit players made the all-GSAC team, which was revealed on Tuesday.
Cristian Gennaro and
Samuel George made it for the first time, while
Kyle McDowell was named for the second straight year.
George tied for first in the GSAC in assists during the regular season, dishing out eight in 17 regular season games. He finished second in the conference in points (34) and third in goals (13), placing behind Hope's Christopher Ribet in points.
Gennaro had a great season offensively as well. He finished third in the conference with 33 points and second in goals with 14. Ribet also led the GSAC in goals, and Gennaro was just one behind the league lead.
While OUAZ had two of the top three conference goal scorers, the team had goal scorers up and down the lineup. The Spirit had 16 different goal scorers, and finished the season with 60 goals. The team's goal differential finished at a plus-36 in the regular season.
