As Thanksgiving approaches, OUAZ women's basketball has a lot to be thankful for. A great group of players, a new gym, and on Saturday, an opportunity to build on its 4-1 record.
The Spirit will Westcliff on Saturday afternoon, and tip-off is scheduled for noon Arizona Time. It is just the second game in ten days for OUAZ, who last hit the court against SAGU American-Indian College on Nov. 20. The Spirit earned a 85-37 win over the Warriors, and it was the first win for OUAZ in Faith Arena.
OUAZ and Westcliff have met only once in history, which saw the Spirit down the Warriors 73-58 on November 15, 2018. Saturday will be the first matchup between the two programs in the state of Arizona.
The Spirit have its offense rolling so far this season. They have four players averaging double-digit points:
Natasa Radovic (17.2),
Kirsten Shinske (15.6),
Kate Sokolova (12.2), and
Taylor Davis (10). They are also outscoring the opposition, on average, by 13.8 points per game.
OUAZ is cleaning the glass at an impressive pace as well. They are grabbing 51.4 on average per game, which is second best in the Golden State Athletic Conference to Arizona Christian (51.7).
They are dominating the NAIA rankings in rebounds as well. OUAZ is second in the nation in rebounds per game, fourth in defensive rebounds per game (34.2), and eight in offensive rebounds per game (17.2).
Radovic is having a stellar first year so far, one that sees her sit in the top five of the GSAC in many categories. She is third in points per game and offensive rebounds (25), fourth in rebounds per game (10.0), and fifth in steals (15).
Coverage of Saturday's game will be available on the OUAZ Game Central portal and the NAIA Network for $7.95. The NAIA Network is available on Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, and Android TV devices. Live stats will also be available through Game Central at portal.stretchinternet.com/ottawaaz.
Saturday is the last game before OUAZ starts GSAC play. They will host Westmont on December 5 and The Master's on December 7 for its first conference action of the season. Despite jumping into conference play, the Spirit still have two non-conference games and two scrimmages against NCAA D1 opponents before the turn of the calendar year. Â
