GILBERT, Ariz. – The OUAZ women's volleyball team stepped out of conference play for the final time of the season on Wednesday night and they were swept by Park Gilbert at San Tan Charter High School.
In the second meeting of the season between the two Arizona programs, Park Gilbert (15-11) came away with a 25-23, 25-21, 25-19 victory. OUAZ (7-15) had a strong showing with 12 kills and .444 hitting in the first set, but they couldn't maintain the offensive effort in finishing with 30 kills in the match.
Austin Edwards was the top attacker for the Spirit in defeat with 10 kills on .273 hitting. She also added eight digs and a service ace.
Sharron Wallace added seven kills with
Avie Butsko getting six kills.
Park Gilbert ended the night with a 53-46 advantage in digs and the Buccaneers tallied eight service aces against three of the Spirit.
Leni Bartley had 17 digs to lead the Spirit and
Kanoe Vinoya finished with 26 assists and eight digs. Butsko and
Katie Defer had two blocks apiece.
OUAZ has five conference matches remaining in the season and they play the next three at home. That stretch begins on Friday at 7 p.m. when they host Menlo at Willow Canyon High School.
