GLENDALE, Ariz. – The OUAZ women's volleyball team dropped their first meeting of the season with crosstown rival Arizona Christian in three sets on Wednesday night at Ironwood High School.
OUAZ (3-10, 1-8 GSAC) had a 34-29 edge in kills in the 22-25, 19-25, 19-25 loss. What hurt the Spirit was their 31 hitting errors and .025 hitting compared to the 16 errors and .116 night from Arizona Christian (11-8, 4-5).
Avie Butsko led the Spirit with 12 kills to reach double figures for the third straight match. She hit .250 on the night while adding a pair of digs and one block.
The Spirit finished the match with 60 digs and eight blocks. They had two service aces – both from
Kanoe Vinoya – while ACU went posted seven aces and 43 digs.
Leni Bartley had a team-high 15 digs and
Katie Defer added 10 digs.
Skyler Traut recorded three blocks.
OUAZ will now begin a four-match homestand when they host New Hope Christian on Friday at 7 p.m. at Willow Canyon High School.
