COSTA MESA, Calif. – The OUAZ women's volleyball team put up little resistance in getting swept by No. 21 Vanguard on Friday evening in Golden State Athletic Conference play.
OUAZ (6-14, 2-10 GSAC) only had double-digit kills in one of the three sets as they Vanguard (19-6, 8-4) secured the 25-17, 25-16, 25-17 victory. The Spirit's 27 total kills are their fewest in a match since early September.
The Lions proved worthy of their national ranking in countering with 36 kills and .260 hitting. They forced the Spirit into 20 hitting errors while adding a 10-2 edge in service aces. Vanguard led in digs 49-48 and the posted a 6-1 advantage in blocks.
Austin Edwards and
Avie Butsko led the Spirit effort with 10 kills apiece. Edwards added nine digs and Butsko has the team's lone block.
Katie Defer – three – was the only other player with multiple kills.
Leni Bartley led the Spirit with 12 digs.
OUAZ now heads to La Mesa, California where they will close their road trip against San Diego Christian on Saturday at 2 p.m.
