GARDEN GROVE, Calif. – The OUAZ women's volleyball team got off to a slow start and never recovered in a four-set loss at Westcliff on Thursday night in non-conference action.
One night after earning a road sweep, OUAZ dropped the first two sets to Westcliff which allowed the Warriors to pull out the 25-20, 25-19, 23-25, 26-24 victory.
The Spirit recorded just 43 kills in the match and managed just .097 hitting. They weren't able to hit above .129 in any of the sets while committing 29 hitting errors. Westcliff countered with 51 kills and .208 hitting.
Sharron Wallace led the Spirit attack with 12 kills while
Austin Edwards added 11. OUAZ also got eight kills apiece from
Katie Defer and
Avie Butsko.
With three players in double figures in digs, OUAZ finished with a 69-66 edge in the category.
Leni Bartley and
Kanoe Vinoya had 16 digs each to lead the team. Vinoya added 34 assists and one service ace. Edwards had 13 digs.
Defer finished with a team-best three aces and Butsko led the team with three blocks.
The Spirit will continue their four-match road trip on Friday at 5 p.m. when they face No. 21 Vanguard in Golden State Athletic Conference action.
