ESCONDIDO, Calif. – The OUAZ women's volleyball team began their week of four matches in four days with a 3-0 sweep of Saint Katherine on Wednesday night at Escondido High School.
The OUAZ offense carried the team to the 25-16, 25-15, 25-18 victory. They recorded 46 kills and hit .392 – their second-best attack percentage of the season – in the victory. The Spirit held Saint Katherine to .146 hitting with 30 kills.
It was a balanced offensive attack for the Spirit as seven different players had at least three kills.
Katie Defer led the way with 11 kills on a night she hit .476 with just one attacking error. Defer also had a team-best two blocks.
Sharron Wallace added nine kills and
Avie Butsko had eight kills on .615 hitting.
Austin Edwards and
Kristi Mertins finished with six kills apiece.
OUAZ ended the match with six service aces behind two each from Mertins and
Star Hoskie.
Leni Bartley had 11 digs to lead the way for the team that totaled 46.
The Spirit will now get set to face Westcliff in another non-conference match on Thursday at 7 p.m. in Garden Grove, California.
