Spirit Hit the Road to Face a Pair of Ranked Opponents

THE AGENDA
The OUAZ women's basketball team is back on the road this week where they will play a pair of ranked opponents in Golden State Athletic Conference play. On Thursday, the Spirit are in Santa Barbara, California to face No. 14 Westmont at 6:30 p.m. MST. They will then head to Santa Clarita, California on Saturday to play No. 10 The Master's at 2 p.m. MST.
 
Both games of the road trip will broadcast both games live on the NAIA Network and through the host school's Game Central portal. The NAIA Network is available on Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, and Roku devices by searching NAIA. Live stats will also be available during each game. ABOUT THE SPIRIT
OUAZ will head to California at 8-8 overall this season and looking to snap a two-game losing streak. They are eighth in the GSAC standings starting the week with their 2-7 record in conference action. The Spirit are 4-3 in road games this season and 7-3 in their past 10 road games dating back to last season. Against ranked opponents this season, the Spirit are winless in five attempts.
 
The Spirit are averaging 68.8 points per game on the season while shooting 36.5 percent from the field. They connect on 5.9 threes per game at a 25.5 percent clip and the team makes 68.8 percent at the foul line. They are averaging 11.9 assists per game with a 0.7 assist-to-turnover ratio.
 
At the defensive end, OUAZ is giving up 70.7 points per game with the opposition making 39.0 percent from the floor. Opponents shoot 32.2 percent from the beyond the arc in making 6.9 3-pointers per game. OUAZ grabs 41.9 rebounds per game and allows 46.2 to the opposition.
 
The Spirit are forcing 19.9 turnovers per game and they average 10.5 steals and 2.7 blocks per game. OUAZ turns it over 17.3 times per outing.
 
Bailey Osmer leads the Spirit in scoring at 16.4 points per game – fifth in the GSAC – and she has led the team in scoring during eight games. Osmer has scored in double figures 14 times with four 20-point outings. She shoots 45.5 percent from the field and leads the team with 94 rebounds and 39 steals. She has also tallied 33 assists and 10 blocked shots.
 
Alexis Smith scores 12.9 points per game with 11 games in double figures and three games with 20-plus. She leads the Spirit with 24 made 3-pointers and 45 assists. Smith ranks 10th in the GSAC at 2.81 assists per game.
 
Jorie Mayfield adds 11.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game this season. Mayfield has a team-best three double-doubles and she has scored in double figures 10 times.  She shoots 41.5 percent from the field and 83.6 percent at the foul line.
               
ABOUT WESTMONT
Westmont enters the week with a No. 14 national ranking and holding a 13-6 overall record. The Warriors are tied for third in the GSAC with a 6-3 record in conference play. They snapped a two-game losing streak with their win over San Diego Christian on Saturday and have a 10-1 record at home this season.
 
The teams met for the first time ever earlier this season with Westmont defeating OUAZ 82-38 at Willow Canyon High School. Saturday is the first time the teams will play in Santa Barbara.
 
ABOUT THE MASTER'S
Starting the week, The Master's holds a 16-4 overall record and a No. 10 national ranking. The Mustangs are tied atop the GSAC standings with an 8-1 record in league games. They have won eight straight games overall and are 9-1 at home this season.
 
The Master's hold a 2-0 lead in the all-time series against the Spirit. They defeated OUAZ 74-60 earlier this season. In a meeting at TMU last season, the Mustangs defeated the Spirit 73-49.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
OUAZ returns home next week for two games in conference play. They host San Diego Christian on January 31 and Vanguard on February 2. Both games will be played at Willow Canyon High School.
