OUAZ Returns Home to Host No. 13 Menlo & William Jessup

THE AGENDA
The OUAZ women's basketball team is home this week for a pair of Golden State Athletic Conference games to complete the first-half of conference play. OUAZ will host No. 13 Menlo on Thursday at 5 p.m. with the game being played at Paradise Honors High School. The Spirit will then welcome William Jessup to Surprise on Saturday with a noon game at Willow Canyon High School.

Both games are the first of a doubleheader with the men's game tipping 20 minutes after the women's game ends. Admission is free to al OUAZ home basketball games this season. At Willow Canyon, fans are encouraged to park on the south side of the gymnasium and enter the building through the west doors.

OUAZ will broadcast both games live on the NAIA Network and through the Spirit Game Central portal. The NAIA Network is available on Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, and Roku devices by searching NAIA. Live stats will also be available during each game. ABOUT THE SPIRIT
OUAZ enters the week with an 8-6 overall record after splitting a pair of road games last week in California. The Spirit currently sit eighth in the GSAC standings with a 2-5 record in conference games. The team is 4-3 at home this season and has won six of their last 10 home games dating back to last season.

The Spirit are averaging 70.5 points per game on the season while shooting 38.1 percent from the field. They connect on 6.0 threes per game at a 26.3 percent clip and the team makes 68.1 percent at the foul line. They are averaging 12.6 assists per game with a 0.7 assist-to-turnover ratio.

At the defensive end, OUAZ is giving up 69.2 points per game with the opposition making 37.8 percent from the floor. Opponents shoot 31.3 percent from the beyond the arc in making 7.0 3-pointers per game. OUAZ grabs 42.8 rebounds per game and allows 45.0 to the opposition.

The Spirit are forcing 20.2 turnovers per game and they average 10.8 steals and 2.6 blocks per game. OUAZ turns it over 17.7 times per outing.

Bailey Osmer leads the Spirit in scoring at 16.1 points per game and she has led the team in scoring during six games. Osmer has scored in double figures 12 times with three 20-point outings. She shoots 46.6 percent from the field and leads the team with 88 rebounds and 37 steals. She has also tallied 31 assists and eight blocked shots.

Alexis Smith scores 13.1 points per game with nine games in double figures and three games with 20-plus. She leads the Spirit with 20 made 3-pointers and 44 assists. Smith ranks ninth in the GSAC at 3.14 assists per game and eight with a 1.22 A/TO ratio.

Jorie Mayfield adds 12.9 points and 6.8 rebounds per game this season. Mayfield has a team-best three double-doubles and she has scored in double figures 10 times.  She shoots 44.6 percent from the field and 82.4 percent at the foul line.

ABOUT MENLO
Menlo starts the week with a No. 13 national ranking and sitting at 13-4 overall. The Oaks are tied for fifth in the GSAC with a 4-3 record and they swept a pair of games last week at home. They are scoring 73.1 points per game and allow 63.2 per contest. Destinee Bowie is second in the GSAC in scoring at 18.5 points per game.

Thursday will mark the first-ever meeting between the Spirit and Oaks. The team will meet in the OUAZ season finale on February 23 in Atherton, California.

ABOUT WILLIAM JESSUP
William Jessup starts the week at 13-5 overall and receiving votes in the current NAIA Coaches' Poll. They are tied for fifth in the GSAC with their 4-3 record. The Warriors split two games last week and snapped a three-game losing streak with Saturday's win over San Diego Christian. The score 70.2 points per game and allow 59.1 per night. Lily Hagerty leads the Warriors in scoring at 12.7 points per game.

The two programs will meet for the first time ever on Saturday. They will play again this season on February 21 in Rocklin, California.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Spirit will begin the second half of league play next week with a pair of road games. They are at No. 14 Westmont on Thursday and then face No. 10 The Master's on Saturday.
