FULLERTON, Calif. – The OUAZ women's basketball team was within range of a second straight road conference win before Hope International pulled away late for a 67-58 win on Thursday night in Golden State Athletic Conference play.
OUAZ (7-6, 1-5 GSAC) had rallied from eight down to within 50-47 with 7:10 remaining in the fourth quarter. Hope International (12-3, 3-3) then scored eight of the game's next 10 points over a 2-minute span on their way to a 10-point advantage with 3:06 to play.
For the night, OUAZ shot 41.4 percent from the field with five makes from beyond the arc. The Spirit tallied 34 points in the paint and added 15 points from 16 offensive rebounds. They were hurt by 25 turnovers that resulted in 16 points for the Royals.
Bailey Osmer led three Spirit players in double figures with 18 points on 7 of 10 shooting. She would also lead the team with four steals while grabbing six rebounds and two assists.
Marissa Copley would add 14 points and six rebounds while
Jorie Mayfield accounted for 12 points and seven boards.
HIU shot 39.7 percent and made nine threes. Dakota Viena led the Royals with 18 points off the bench.
The Spirit will now take a day off before completing two straight weekends on the road with a game at Life Pacific in Saturday at 2 p.m. MST.
