SAN DIMAS, Calif. – The OUAZ women's basketball team picked up its second road conference win of the season with a 76-69 win at Life Pacific on Saturday afternoon.
OUAZ (8-6, 2-5 GSAC) never trailed in the game and they closed the first quarter with a 15-4 run to build a 17-point lead after 10 minutes. Life Pacific (1-16, 0-7) was able to close within two in the second quarter before the Spirit scored 12 of the quarter's final 14 points to be back in front by double digits come halftime.
The Spirit lead would reach 17 again in the third quarter before the Warriors began to chip away. That advantage would get to six on multiple occasions in the fourth quarter, but OUAZ was able to convert enough free throws down the stretch to earn the victory.
OUAZ ended the game shooting 43.5 percent from the field with seven 3-pointers. They scored 36 points in the paint and got 14 points from 22 offensive rebounds. The Spirit forced 18 Life Pacific turnovers for 16 points.
Alexis Smith scored 25 points with three triples and
Jorie Mayfield added 20 points and seven rebounds for the Spirit. This is the second time this season OUAZ has had a pair of players score 20-plus points in the same game.
Bailey Osmer added 12 points and five steals for the winners.
Life Pacific shot 41.5 percent as a team and the Warriors got 25 points from Samantha Custodio and 21 from Allison Ayala.
After two weeks on the road, OUAZ returns to Arizona next week for a pair of games. The Spirit will host Menlo on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Paradise Honors High School.
