SANTEE, Calif. – The OUAZ women's soccer team added another first to its season record as they defeated San Diego Christian 2-1 on Saturday for the team's first-ever Golden State Athletic Conference victory.
OUAZ (8-2, 1-0 GSAC) scored both of its goals in a 30 second span of the first half. The first coming in the 15th minute when Syndee Busby continued her impressive year when her shot to the lower left corner found the net for her GSAC leading 12th goals of the season.
Just 33 seconds later,
Keana Barrow tallied her first goal of the season after being setup by Busby and
Paige Murray-Hernandez.
The remainder of the game was left to see if the Spirit could record its fifth straight shutout. They were on their way until Jessica Taylor converted a penalty kick with 29 seconds to play in the game to end the shutout streak at 477 minutes, 20 seconds.
San Diego Christian (2-2, 0-1) finished with a 10-6 edge in shot attempts with OUAZ putting four of their chances on goal. Busby and Barrow had two shots apiece to lead the Spirit.
Emily Kriplean earned the win in goal for OUAZ with four saves.
The Spirit will play a non-conference game on Monday at Saint Katherine before playing at Arizona Christian next Saturday, October 6.
