PHOENIX – The OUAZ women's volleyball team returned to the win column with a 3-0 sweep at SAGU American Indian College on Tuesday night on the strength of the team's service game.
OUAZ totaled 17 service aces and faced little resistance as they improved to 7-6 on the season with the 25-10, 25-15, 25-9 victory.
The ace total is the second highest by the team this season and came from seven different players.
Kelsey Marchant led the way with six aces. She had all six during a seven serve rotation of the second set.
Raelynn Therio finished with four aces while
Rachel Kater and
Elizabeth Houk added two apiece.
The Spirit needed jus 33 kills on .247 hitting to earn the season sweep of SAGU. They held the home squad to just 10 kills all night and forced the Warriors into negative-.125 hitting behind 47 digs and four blocks.
Gianna Kioa finished with a match high nine kills on .412 hitting.
Austin Edwards chipped in five kills with
Jorie Mayfield posting four kills.
Kater added 23 assists and seven digs in the win. Marchant led the team with nine digs.
SAGU got five kills and nine digs from Kourtney Possey.
OUAZ settles back into Golden State Athletic Conference action this weekend as they host a pair of matches. The first to visit is San Diego Christian College on Friday where first serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Willow Canyon High School.
