Spirit Fall at William Jessup in Five Sets

OUAZ finishes road trip at 1-2

ROCKLIN, Calif. – The OUAZ women's volleyball team dropped its second straight match after they lost in five sets at William Jessup University on Saturday afternoon in Golden State Athletic Conference play.
 
OUAZ (6-6, 2-4 GSAC) led the match two sets to one before William Jessup (8-8, 3-3) rallied to win the final two sets and the match 25-20, 24-26, 20-25, 25-22, 15-13.
 
Jorie Mayfield led four Spirit players in double figures with 12 kills as the team totaled 54 kills in defeat. Mayfield added five blocks and four digs to her afternoon totals.
 
The Spirit had double-digit kill totals in each of the first four sets and they hit .144 on the day. They allowed William Jessup 59 kills and .110 hitting. Each team recorded five service aces and OUAZ had an 8-2 edge in blocks.
 
Jessica Youngberg, Gianna Kioa, and Austin Edwards each posted 10 kills for the Spirit. Youngberg hit .348 and had three blocks. Edwards added 21 digs while Seleni Bartley led the team with 22 digs. Rachel Kater finished with 37 assists, 16 digs, and eight kills.
 
William Jessup had three players reach double figures in kills with Vendela Williams closing with a team-high 17.
 
The Spirit will return to action on Tuesday when they travel across town to face SAGU American Indian College at 7 p.m.
