SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ women's soccer team returned to action on Saturday and had little issues finding a rhythm as they cruised to a 9-0 win over the University of Saint Katherine at Spirit Field.
OUAZ (7-2) went ahead 1-0 in the seventh minute and dominated all morning in scoring a season-high nine goals. They took 33 shots and held Saint Katherine (0-7) without a shot in the game. The Spirit put 20 of those shots on goal.
Sydnee Busby had five points in the game with two goals and one assist.
Drew Theobald also scored two goals while
Keana Barrow had a pair of assists.
Kalleigh Gibaldo finished the game with one goal and one assist. The Spirit also got goals from
Brandi Gutierrez,
Breanna Brumet, and
Kaycee Youngs.
OUAZ had 30 players see action with 15 of them taking at least one shot.
Krysten Caballeros and
Brooke Riddle combined on the shutout as OUAZ extended its school record streak with its fourth straight shutout. It's been 387 minutes, 49 seconds since the last goal allowed by the Spirit.
The Spirit will put the streak on the line when they open Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) action next Saturday, September 29, at San Diego Christian. The first GSAC game in school history is set for a 2 p.m. first touch.
