OUAZ Secures First Win with Shutout of Evergreen

Busby scores both Spirit goals

OYLMPIA, Wash. – The Ottawa University Arizona women's soccer team picked up its first win of the young season with a 2-0 shutout of The Evergreen State College on Monday afternoon at the Geoduck Pitch.

OUAZ (1-1) used a pair of goals from Sydney Busby to secure the road victory. The first came in the seventh minute as she broke through the Evergreen (0-1) defense to beat the keeper for an early lead.

Busby completed the brace in the 58th minute when her shot from the right side of the penalty area found the back of the net.  Maddie Myers earned an assist on the goal with her setup pass.

The Spirit controlled much of the action with a 26-9 edge in shot attempts. They managed put 15 of those attempts on goal while also taking seven corner kicks.

Busby set a school record by taking 10 of those shots. She had six shots on goal. Three Spirit players, Kiiaweau Aweau, Shombri Baranski, and Kaycee Youngs took three shots apiece.

Emily Kriplean earned the win in goal with three saves for her fifth career shutout and first of the season.

OUAZ now returns home where they will host University of the Southwest on Thursday at Spirit Field. That game will start at 5:30 p.m. with a men's game between the same two schools to follow at 8 p.m.
