OLYMPIA, Wash. – Opening the season with a neutral site game against Corban University, the Ottawa University Arizona women's soccer conceded a pair of early goals and couldn't recover in a 3-2 loss at the Geoduck Pitch at Evergreen State College on Saturday.
Corban (1-0-0) recorded consecutive goals in a 3-minute span to open a 2-0 advantage in the 18th minute. Ottawa (0-1-0) was able to pull a goal back before halftime when
Breanna Brumet scored in the 35th minute after a shot from
Crystal Carroll was turned away by the Corban keeper.
Neither team registered a shot for nearly 20 minutes into the second half until Corban added the eventual game-winner on a free kick in the 65th minute. Trailing by two again, OUAZ held a 4-2 edge in shots over the final 25 minutes and eventually found a second goal when Sydney Busby scored on a corner kick in the 88th minute.
That would be the final tally of the game with neither team getting another chance in the closing minutes.
Corban finished the contest with a 12-11 advantage in shot attempts with each team putting seven of their attempts on goal.
Kiiaweau Aweau led the Spirit with three shots while Carroll and Brumet each recorded two shots on goal.
Maddie Myers was awarded an assist on the Busby goal.
Addison Riddle made the start in goal for OUAZ and came up with two saves.
