TUCSON, Ariz. - The Ottawa University softball team split in the final day of the Tucson Invitational Saturday. The Spirit fell to Bellevue University 7-3, but were victorious against Valley City State University 6-3.
With the split, the Spirit move to 7-30 on the year.
In the final day of play at the Tucson Invitational, the Spirit faced the Bellevue University Bruins. The Bruins would establish an early lead over the Spirit in the first inning. The Spirit would get on the board with a run in the bottom of the third. A single from
Emily Stebbins would allow
Amanda Almond to score. In the seventh
Vanessa Rodarte would hit a two-run home run on a 0-0 count to score the Spirits final two runs of the game. The Spirit would hold the Bruins scoreless for the second half of the game using their defense to end their offensive innings short.
The second game of the day started with the Valley City State Vikings getting on the board first, but would be one of three runs that they would score for the game. In the bottom of the third, the
Miranda Davis would hit a triple to send
Ashton Aggers into home.
Emily Stebbins' sacrifice fly would give Davis her run, and a single from
Savannah Brown sent
Amanda Almond into home for the inning.
The Spirit would respond again in the bottom of the fifth with three more runs from a walk with loaded bases, a double hit RBI and a single.
