@OUAZSB Splits Games Friday At Tucson Invite

Spirit defeat Mayville State 13-4 and fall 10-2 to Robert Morris in five-innings

TUCSON, Ariz. - The Ottawa University Arizona softball team split their games Friday afternoon on day two of the Tucson Invitational. OUAZ defeated Mayville State University by a final of 13-4, before falling in their second game 10-2 to Robert Morris University in a final five-innings.
 
With the split Friday, the Spirit's record currently sits at 6-29.
 
In the first game of the day vs. Mayville State, the Spirit dominated from the start, earning two runs in the first inning and holding Mayville scoreless until the bottom of the 5th. Sydney Saxton earned a double RBI with a single hit to start the game and give the Spirit the early lead.
 
In the bottom of the first, Amanda Almond, after catching a line drive, threw the batter out at first for a two-out play, setting the tone for the OUAZ defense. A wild throw in the fourth inning gave OUAZ three runs adding to the momentum of the Spirit. Quickly following, Amanda Almond hit a sacrifice fly to score another run solidifying a five-run lead.
 
The defense of the Spirit didn't let up with a double play with a 6-4-3 put-out to finish the fourth. The Spirit continued to score while the pitching of the Spirit kept the Mayville State Comets in check. In the sixth and seventh Sabrina Jimenez struck out two batters in each to give the Spirit the comfortable third out and end the game in their favor.
 
In the second game of the day, the Spirit were the first to get on the board vs. The Robert Morris Eagles. Miranda Davis scored on an RBI double from Emily Stebbins in the top of the first. The Spirit would score again in the third, Miranda Davis scoring again from an RBI single by KaeLynn Miller. OUAZ would hold the Eagles scoreless until the third inning where the Eagles would score five of their 13 runs for the game.
 
The Spirit play again tomorrow, Saturday, March 17th, against Bellevue University and Valley City State. First game starts at 9:00 am and the second game is scheduled for 11:00 am.
