@OUAZMVB Defeats Mount Olive in Four Sets

Spirit defeat first NCAA Division 1 opponent in school history

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Ottawa University Arizona men's volleyball team defeated NCAA Division I University of Mount Olive on Saturday afternoon in four sets at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix. The final scores were 19-25, 25-23, 25-21, and 25-20.

With the victory Saturday, the Spirit improve to 10-8 overall and have now won two straight matches. With the loss, the University of Mount Olive falls to 11-8 overall.

Mount Olive; an NCAA Division I school in men's volleyball, came out and flexed their muscle Saturday afternoon in a neutral site match between the Spirit and Trojans. Mount Olive defeated OUAZ 25-19 in the first set and outhit the Spirit .654% to .455%. OUAZ did not hang their heads following the first set; instead they came out ready to go. The Spirit took the next three sets to claim the 3-1 upset victory over NCAA DI University of Mount Olive.

All three sets were close, as the Spirit claimed 25-23, 25-21, and 25-20 victories over the Trojans. OUAZ outhit the Trojans .327 to .272 in the match. The Spirit also finished with eight less errors than the Trojans.

In the victory, OUAZ was led by James Yahner 's 16 kills and Andrew de'Leon's team high 38 assists and 14 digs.  

The Spirit return to action this Wednesday, when they travel east to square off against crosstown rival; Benedictine University at Mesa. Wednesday's match is scheduled to begin at 7pm.
