@OUAZMVB Beat UCSC and HIU in Day Two

MENLO, Calif. - The Ottawa University Arizona men's volleyball team finished their weekend at the Menlo Tournament with two wins over UC-Santa Cruz (3-1) and Hope International University (3-2). Final scores against UC-Santa Cruz were 25-23, 25-22, 25-14, 25-19 and final scores against HIU were 25-21, 25-15, 25-22, 28-26, 15-7.
 
With the two wins, the Spirit move forward with a win-positive 6-5 record.
 
The UC-Santa Cruz Slugs and the OUAZ Spirit met, for the second time, on day two of the Menlo Tournament. Both teams battled for the lead, service errors and well-placed kills creating a momentum swing that neither side seemed to be able to grab. The Spirit tied the score at 20-20 and 23-23 to give UCSC a difficult time winning the first game 25-23.
 
Game two OUAZ had a rough start, letting the Slugs gain a lead. The Spirit were able to come back after their timeout to close the gap. At 22-22 the spirit overcame the Slugs using attack errors, a block by Bryan Ilena and Kory Peterson and the final kill by Kory Peterson to win the game 25-22. The Slugs came out firing in game four taking control and maintaining the lead to win the game and force a fourth set 25-14. In the final game of the match, the Spirit turned the tables and took back the momentum to keep the lead and win the game 25-19.
 
OUAZ dominated the game in blocks earning 10 to UCSC's four. Quentin Campbell gathered 19 kills for the game, and Andrew de'Leon earned 48 assists. Kory Peterson and Seth Golleher collected four blocks each.
 
The second match of the day the Hope International Royals hung with the Spirit for the first game, momentum swinging between both teams. Service errors and attack errors giving the opponent the chance to get back in the game. The Spirit would win the game using attack errors from the Royals and strong offensive moves.
 
In game two the Royals were able to bounce back and take control of game two winning it 25-15 using Spirit attacking errors.  Game three followed similarly, but with more of a fight from the Spirit. The Royals would win the game 25-22. In game four the Spirit would take back some of the control, maintaining a narrow lead throughout the game to win it 28-26.In the final game of the match, the Spirit dominated the game making few errors and executing their offense well. The Spirit won the game 15-7 and the match.
