SURPRISE, Ariz. - The Ottawa University Arizona baseball team split their doubleheader Saturday against the College of Idaho at Surprise Stadium. The Spirit dropped game one by a final of 12-10 in a final 11-innings, while claiming a game two victory by a final of 4-1 in 7-innings.
With the split on Saturday, the Spirit move to 3-7 on the season. The College of Idaho sees their record move to 4-8. OUAZ and College of Idaho will complete their four game series on Sunday at 11am. A victory by OUAZÂ would claim the series victory, while a win by the College of Idaho would make the series finish in a 2-2 tie.
Game one Saturday featured offense galore for both teams. OUAZ jumped out to an early 6-0 lead; following a six run fourth inning. The College of Idaho responded with runs in the next five straight innings. The Coyotes tied the ballgame at 10-10 by scoring three runs in the top of the ninth inning to force extras.
After a scoreless tenth inning, the Coyotes struck for a pair of runs on a double and a single to take the 12-10 lead. The College of Idaho shutdown the Spirit in the bottom half of the inning to hold on for the 12-10 victory in 11 innings to even the series at a game apiece.
Overall in game one, the teams combined for 22 runs on 28 hits and three errors. Designated Hitter
Austin Shumaker led the offense for OUAZ, going 3-for-5 at the plate with a double, two singles, and two runs scored.
Game two was the polar opposite of the first game. The Spirit and Coyotes played seven innings and it was a pitchers duel. OUAZÂ scored all four of their runs in the first three innings. The College of Idaho got their lone run in the second inning. The teams combined for just 13 hits, after totaling 28 the game before.Â

Zack Mcleod went 3.2 innings, allowing just one run on three hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
Tyler Collins picked up his first win of the season coming in relief of McLeod. Collins finished the game, going 3.1 innings while allowing just one hit and striking out five.
Offensively in game two
Race Traynor led the way at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored.
The Spirit close out their series with the College of Idaho on Sunday morning, with first pitch scheduled for 11am at Surprise Stadium.
