SURPRISE, Ariz. - The Ottawa University Arizona baseball team dropped the series finale on Sunday afternoon to the College of Idaho, by a final of 7-3 inside of Surprise Stadium. With the loss by OUAZ, the two teams split their four game weekend series.
With the loss, the Spirit fall to 3-8 overall, while the College of Idaho improves to 5-8 on the year.
OUAZÂ got off to quick start on Sunday afternoon, jumping out to an early 2-1 lead after three innings of play. But the Spirit struggled down the stretch, and for the second time this weekend dropped a game due to a comeback by the College of Idaho.
Spirit starting pitcher
Dylan Chelini struggled on the mound, last 2.1 innings while allowing one run on one hit and surrendering five walks with one strikeout.
After the College of Idaho scored a run in the third inning, they then struck for five runs in the fourth and fifth inning combined off of OUAZ reliever
Xavier Luna. Luna threw well on Saturday for the Spirit, but on Sunday he gave up five runs; three earned on three hits in 1.1 innings of work.
The Spirit offense scored a single run in the second, third and fourth innings, but were unable to muster any offense past that. The Spirit finished the day with 11 hits; just as many as the College of Idaho.
Chandler Reynard led the offense, finishing 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and an RBI.
The Spirit have an off day Monday, before playing a pair of exhibition games against Okanagan College from Canada on Tuesday and Wednesday evening. Both games are scheduled to start at 6pm and will be played on the Kansas City Royals' practice field. Admission and parking is free to all home games this season.
