PHOENIX – The OUAZ women's soccer team rallied from a two goal deficit to pick up a point with a 2-2 draw at Arizona Christian on Saturday afternoon at the Rose Mofford Soccer Complex.
OUAZ (9-2-1, 1-0-1 GSAC) trailed 1-0 at halftime after allowing a goal in the 11th minute. Arizona Christian (5-7-1, 1-1-1) made it 2-0 in the opening minute of the second half to set the stage for the OUAZ rally.
The Spirit began the comeback in the 54th minute when
Paige Murray-Hernandez deflected a cross from
Sydnee Busby into the net for her fifth goal of the season.
The equalizer came in the 81st minute when
Taylor Constance at the left post tipped in a cross from
Maddie Myers at the right of the penalty area.
Mariah McDuffy started the play with a through ball to a Myers.
In the 20 minutes of extra time, ACU had multiple scoring chances. They came close to winning in the dying seconds with a ball that went into the goal, but it was deemed after time had expired by the officials.
The game ended with OUAZ taking 19 shots and putting nine on goal. Busby had a team-high seven of those chances with four on frame. ACU took 25 shots.
Emily Kriplean allowed two goals with three save s in her 54 minutes in goal.
Addison Riddle had seven saves without allowing a goal to earn the decision in 56 minutes.
Although OUAZ had its six-game winning streak snapped, they remain unbeaten in seven straight outings. They will put that on the line on Thursday when they host Menlo College at 5 p.m. at Spirit Field.
