SANTEE, Calif. – The OUAZ women's volleyball team bounced back from a loss on Friday night to pick up a 3-2 win at San Diego Christian College on Saturday afternoon in Golden State Athletic Conference play.
The 24-26, 25-21, 25-21, 17-25, 15-10 victory is the 200th career victory for head coach
Kristin Steele and it guarantees OUAZ (15-12, 8-9 GSAC) a winning record in the regular season.
Gianna Kioa led the way for the Spirit on Saturday as the senior finished with 22 kills. This is her 12th double-digit kill match of the season and the second time she's recorded 20-plus. Kioa had just five errors on her 52 swings while also posting nine digs.
OUAZ finished the match with a 67-60 advantage in kills and the Spirit hit .231. They closed out the victory with eight kills and .538 hitting in the fifth set. The Spirit held San Diego Christian (7-20, 1-15) to .184 hitting behind seven blocks and 69 digs.
Jorie Mayfield provided another option for the Spirit with 19 kills. She also recorded three blocks and nine digs.
Asha Harris had nine kills and five blocks while
Seleni Bartley recorded eight kills and 18 digs.
Rachel Kater set 52 assists and
Kelsey Marchant tallied 20 digs.
San Diego Christian had four players reach double figures in kills with Anekka Guy and Chelsea Lawrence finishing with 15 apiece.
The Spirit have two matches left in the regular season with the first coming on Tuesday at Benedictine Mesa. The non-conference match is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
