Spirit Shutout Warriors to Stay Perfect at Home

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ women's soccer team kept their run of success moving on Saturday as they battled through the rain to earn a 2-0 win over William Jessup at Spirit Field.

OUAZ (11-2-1, 3-0-1 GSAC) is now unbeaten in nine straight outings and a perfect 7-0 at home. They picked up their eighth shutout of the season and second straight.

After waiting out a 40-minute lightning delay just 10 minutes in the game, the Spirit went ahead 1-0 in the 24th minute after an own goal scored by William Jessup (5-10, 1-5). A ball crossed into the area was chipped into the William Jessup goal by a Warrior Defender trying to clear the pass away.

The score line stayed that way until the 84th minute when Sydnee Busby added her name to the scoresheet for the 15th time this season on a strike from just outside the penalty area.

OUAZ ended the game with nine shots and five shots on goal. They held William Jessup to three shots – all in the first half – with two on frame.

Busby took a team-high four shots with three on goal.

Brooke Riddle played the first half in goal and recorded two saves to earn the win. Emily Kriplean played the second 45 in net without a save to earn a combined shutout.

The win moves the Spirit into a tie for second in the GSAC and just two points behind Vanguard for the lead. The Spirit will face Vanguard on Thursday in Costa Mesa, California.
