Spirit Defeat Saint Katherine on the Road

SAN MARCOS, Calif. - The Ottawa University Arizona women's basketball team defeated the Firebirds from the University of Saint Katherine on Tuesday evening by a final score of 95-54.

With the victory on Tuesday, the Spirit improve to 6-11 overall. With the loss, the University of Saint Katherine falls to 0-19 overall on the year.

"We are proud of our team staying focused and getting another road win," head coach Milee Karre commented. He continued, "Finishing with 26 assists is what we have been working on the most, sharing the ball to get great shots. And having five players hit double figures is a testament to how well we can play when everyone is engaged."

The Firebirds of Saint Katherine were the first to get on the board for the game against the Spirit. But it didn't take much time at all for the Spirit to step up their intensity and pull away from the Firebirds, holding the team to nine points for the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Firebirds attempted to close the score, but the Spirit held them again to 22 points and scoreless for the second half of the quarter. The spirit gave themselves a 37 point lead going into the second half with a 59-22 score.

In the second half, the Spirit kept their 37 point lead as the Firebirds were only able to score the same as the Spirit for the third quarter. In the fourth, the OUAZ team finished strong by outscoring the Firebirds and improving their lead to 42 points. The final score of the game is 95-54.

Turnovers by the Firebirds contributed to their inability to keep up with the Spirit, making 31 turnovers to OUAZ's nine. And the OUAZ Spirit dominated with 26 assists, making the Saint Katherine defense adjust for multiple offensive weapons.
