PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Ottawa University Arizona women's volleyball team defeated the SAGU American Indian College Warriors by a final of 3-0 on Tuesday evening in Phoenix. Final scores were 25-8, 25-7, and 25-10.
With the victory, the Spirit improve to 4-8 overall on the season.
The Spirit came out strong on Tuesday evening, jumping out to a 13-3 lead and keeping the lead to win the first set 25-8; with seven service aces. In the second set, the Warriors fought back early, allowing the Spirit to get ahead at 11-4. OUAZ ended the game 25-7, with eight service aces. The Spirit closed out the match with a 25-10 victory in the third set, to complete the sweep.
Kill leaders for the Spirit were Ryane Sanders (FR/Glendale, AZ) with seven and Julissa Alaniz (FR/Parker, AZ) with five. McKenna Crank(FR/Payson, AZ) led her team with 12 assists, while Camila Trovato(FR/Surprise, AZ) had 14 digs and Hannah Moreno (FR/Sun City, AZ) chipped in with seven. Melissa Pignatiello (FR/Peoria, AZ) led the Spirit with eight service aces for the match and Destiny Riles (FR/Midwest City, OK) chimed with six.
The Spirit return to the court against this same SAGU Warriors squad next Monday October 2nd at 6:00pm in Phoenix.
