MESA, Ariz. - The 10th ranked Ottawa University Arizona women's soccer team lost on Thursday evening to the Benedictine University at Mesa Redhawks by a final of 1-0 in Mesa, Arizona.
With the loss, the 10th ranked Spirit fall to 5-2 on the season. With the victory, the BenU Mesa Redhawks improve to 1-2 on the season.
It was a defensive battle on Thursday evening, in a duel between West Valley vs East Valley. BenU Mesa attacked just before halftime, when Jackie Igulu found Hunter Murguia for the games' first goal in the 38th minute. The Redhawks would hold that lead and go into halftime up 1-0.
In the second half, both teams attacked and looked for a goal; however neither defense gave any ground. After 90 minutes of play, BenU Mesa would claim the 1-0 victory over OUAZ.
Spirit goaltender Brooke Riddle (JR/Cypress, CA) stopped six of the seven shots she faced in the match. BenU Mesa outshot OUAZ 12-7 and attempted five corner kicks; to just two for the Spirit.
OUAZ has a break in their schedule, returning to action on Sunday September 24th at La Sierra University at 6pm in Riverside, California.
