RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Ottawa University Arizona women's soccer team; who are currently receiving votes in the NCCAA Women's Soccer Top 10 Poll, fell on Sunday evening to La Sierra University by a final of 1-0.
With the loss, the Spirit; fall to 5-3 overall on the season. With the victory, the La Sierra Golden Eagles improve to a perfect 7-0 on the season.
Sunday's contest between the Spirit and the Golden Eagles was a defensive affair from the get-go. Both teams played to a scoreless tie by halftime, as neither squad could break the others' defense.
In the second half, the Golden Eagles broke through in the 70th minute of the match. Marissa Gonzalez slipped a shot past Spirit goalie Emily Kriplean (JR/Peoria, AZ) to give La Sierra the 1-0 lead. The Golden Eagles would hang up and win the game by the score of 1-0.
La Sierra outshot OUAZ 12-5 in the match. The Spirit had two corner kicks, to just one for the Golden Eagles.
OUAZ returns to the field this Tuesday, September 26th at 1pm at Saint Katherine College in San Marcos, California.
