GLENDALE, Ariz. - The OUAZ women's soccer team won their home opener on Sunday afternoon against NCAA Division III Mills College, by a final of 11-0 at the ASU West Soccer Fields in Glendale, Arizona.
With the victory, OUAZ improves to 5-1 overall on the season. With the loss, Mills College falls to 0-3 on the season.
The Spirit jumped on the Mills College Cyclones early and often on Sunday afternoon's home opener. OUAZ got on the board first in the ninth minute of the game, when Kaitlyn Kelsey (JR/Surprise, AZ) found Taylor Constance (JR/Gilbert, AZ) for the game's first goal. The Spirit held the early 1-0 lead and never looked back.
Ottawa University Arizona scored three more goals, to take a 4-0 lead over Mills College at halftime.
In the second half, OUAZ three goals in the first six minutes of the half, to take a commanding 7-0 lead. The Spirit added four more goals later in the half to seal the 11-0 victory over the Cyclones from Mills College.
In the win, the Spirit had eight different goal scorers, with Kaitlyn Kelseyrecording the game's only hat trick. Kelsey finished with three goals and one assist on six shots.
The Spirit will now travel across town this Thursday, to face Benedictine University at Mesa. The women will get things started at 6pm, with the men's match to follow at 8pm.
