PASADENA, Calif. - The Ottawa University Arizona women's basketball team continues its winning streak beating the Beavers of Caltech Wednesday evening. Final score was 60-51.
"This game was another good road win for our team." Head Coach
Milee Karre continued, "Caltech is a solid and smart team. You can always learn from a win, and we need to make adjustments to be more consistent on the boards and about taking care of the ball. We will get some rest tonight and give everything we have against La Sierra."
In the first quarter of the game, it started as a battle for who could gain the early lead. Both teams worked hard to stay within distance of each other, but the OUAZ Spirit, riding the momentum of their win against La Verne, took the lead and held it through the first half.
The Spirit ended the first quarter only up by three points (13-10) but used those three points to launch themselves ahead and finish the first half 30-18. In the first half, the Spirit out-rebounded the Caltech Beavers 23 to 14 and shot better percentages overall.
To start the second half, the third quarter played out similar to the second. The Spirit kept their lead over the Beavers going into the fourth quarter with the score set at 52-33. The Beavers of Caltech made big moves in the fourth quarter holding the Spirit to minimal scoring and narrowing their lead, stealing the ball and making shots. However, the Spirit held on to win the game 60-51. Another win to continue the streak of the OUAZ Spirit.
The Beavers outscored the Spirit in the second half (33-30 points), but the game changer was the three-point line. In the second half, the Spirit shot 33% from the three-point range while the Beavers had a percentage of zero. The Spirit took advantage of Caltech's weakness of perimeter shooting and played good defense in the paint to allow their strength at the three-point line to overcome the Beavers and win.
