SPIRIT FALL AT POMONA-PITZER 69-47

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Ottawa University Arizona women's basketball team fell to Pomona-Pitzer Saturday evening at Voelkel Gymnasium by a final of 69-47. With the loss, the Spirit fell to 1-2 on the year.

"We have a young team this season," commented Head Coach Milee Karre. "We are missing some key players right now and because of that, we are focused on being tougher in key moments of games. Our purpose this year is to get better every single time we go out to practice and play. Our next game at Utah Valley University will be a good exhibition game against a good D1 team."

The Spirit jumped out to an early lead 5-2 lead in the first three minutes of the game, before the Sagehens made quick work to tie the score and take the lead using steals and OUAZ turnovers to control the game. During the first quarter, the Spirit shot 4-for-15 from the field, while the Sagehens shot 7-of-13.

In the second quarter, both teams struggled from the field. The Spirit shot 5-of-16 from the floor, while Pomona-Pitzer finished the quarter 5-of-14 from the field. The Sagehens outrebounded the Spirit 12-6 in the quarter and took a 34-24 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Spirit and Sagehens played tight in the third quarter; before Pomona-Pitzer pulled away for good in the fourth quarter. OUAZ was outscored 16-7 in the final ten minutes and fell 69-47. In the loss, the Spirit shot 25% from the floor and 36% from beyond the 3-point arc.

Bailey Osmer (FR/Tucson, AZ) was the only OUAZ player to score in double-figures, finishing with 19 points in the game. Hannah White(FR/Houston,TX) chimed in with nine points and six rebounds in 24 minutes of action

The Spirit remain on the road, as they travel to Orem, Utah for an exhibition contest against NCAA Division I Utah Valley University Monday November 6th at 3pm.
