SAN MARCOS, Calif. - The Ottawa University Arizona women's volleyball team fell on Saturday afternoon to the University of Saint Katherine Firebirds by a final of 3-1 in San Marcos, California. Final scores were: 20-25, 25-20, 23-25, and 23-25.
With the loss, the Spirit fall to 9-11 overall on the season with just three matches remaining.
It was a tough weekend for OUAZ, playing three matches in a two day span. The Spirit claimed two victories the day before, before falling to the University of Saint Katherine 3-1.
OUAZ kept it close in each set, but fell late. After dropping the first set to the Firebirds 25-20, OUAZ rebounded an won by the same score in the second set to even the match at 1-1.
Saint Katherine pulled away in the next two sets, with victories of 25-23 and 25-23 to seal the 3-1 victory.
In the loss, Nicole Newman (FR/Avondale, AZ) and Kylie Greenway(SO/Riverside, CA) led the team with 10 kills each. Kelsey Marchant(JR/Powell, WY) finished with a team high 26 digs, and Jessica Youngberg (JR/Peoria, AZ) finished with a team high 17 assists.
Next up for the Spirit is yet another roadtrip to California for matches with Vanguard University and San Diego Christian College. First up will be Vanguard University on Tuesday October 24th at 7pm.
