Robert Hernandez

Robert Hernandez was named the director strength and conditioning at OUAZ in December of 2023. Hernandez joined the Spirit family as the director after previously serving at OUAZ as the head weightlifting coach and assistant strength and conditioning coach working with men’s and women’s basketball, beach volleyball, and men’s volleyball where he has part of the men’s basketball 2023 conference tournament championship and NAIA Fab Four appearance as well as the beach volleyball NAIA tournament runner up finish.

Hernandez joined OUAZ from MIAA Conference member Northeastern State University, where he served as the head strength and conditioning coach for the 2021-2022 school year. He was responsible for training football, men’s and women’s soccer, baseball, softball, men’s basketball, the cheer and dance teams, and the tennis team.

Prior to NSU, he served a two-year graduate assistantship at OUAZ from 2019-2021, where he developed and implemented a year-round training programs for men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s volleyball, and beach volleyball while assisting with all aspects of training the football team where he was a part of the 2021 beach volleyball NAIA national championship win. Prior to his graduate assistant position, Hernandez served internships with Southern Methodist University strength staff under Master Strength and Conditioning Coach Trumain Carroll, the Liberty University football athletic performance staff under Master Strength Coach Bill Gillespie, and the William Penn University athletic performance staff. Hernandez earned his bachelor’s degree from Southwestern College in Winfield, KS and his Master’s in leadership from OUAZ.

He is a Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified and member of the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He is also trained in CPR for the Professional rescuer, First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator by the American Red Cross.
