JoAnna Wiginton

JoAnna Wiginton begins her first season as an assistant coach for the OUAZ women’s basketball program in the fall of 2021. She brings a decorated history as both a player and coach that includes winning a total of six NAIA National Championships.

Before joining the staff at OUAZ, Wiginton was a Co-Owner – with her husband Craig – of Solid Rock Basketball in Edmond, Oklahoma. Solid Rock Basketball is a 32,00 Sq FT basketball facility that specializes in elite training, league, and tournament play year-round for grades K-12. Wiginton was also the lead coach on the Elite travel team Gamechangers where she had multiple players continue their playing career at multiple collegiate levels.

 

Before OUAZ


Southern Nazarene University (1994-2003): Wiginton went right from her decorated playing career to an assistant coach at her alma mater where she helped the program make 10 straight trips to the NAIA Fab Four and win five championships. That included four straight titles from 1994-1997 and two more National Runner-up finishes. Wiginton served as the associate head coach for SNU from 1999-2003.
 

Playing Career (Southern Nazarene)


Wiginton led SNU a 34-0 record and the 1994 NAIA National Championship where she was named the MVP of the tournament and an NAIA First Team All-American. She holds the NAIA National Championship record for most 3-point field goals made in a tournament with 21. Wiginton was a four-time Sooner All-Conference selection, two-time Sooner Tournament MVP, Sooner Freshman of the Year, and helped SNU win 122 consecutive home games.

Wiginton traveled to Russia to compete in the first-ever Independence Cup and made several trips to Mexico for play and witness opportunities. She played against numerous national teams while traveling abroad and was an All-State selection in high school.

 

Personal


Wiginton earned a BA in Psychology from Southern Nazarene University in 1994 and her Master’s in Education from the University of Central Oklahoma in 2000. She is married to OUAZ women’s basketball head coach Craig Wiginton and has one daughter, Meg Brady.
