Taryn Steele

Taryn Steele

Taryn Steele, wife of head coach Kyle Steele, enters her second season as assistant coach for the OUAZ men's volleyball team.

Taryn previously coached four seasons as the 1’s team coach with the Oklahoma Charge club team. She also coached at Kaizen VC for two seasons prior to charge while she was still in school at Southern Nazarene. She was also named the inaugural head coach for Yukon High School’s program in 2011, leading the Millers to a 25-9 clip and winning two tournaments. Steele was named the Region VI coach of the year in 2011. She then took over the Mustang High School helm in 2013 and lead the Broncos to a 21-10 record and again won two tournaments after the Broncos only won 10 games the season before with the previous regime.

Taryn played her college ball at Southern Nazarene University, where she is in the top 10 all time in every statistical category taken, including being second in all-time digs, and third in all time kills. She earned the freshman of the year honor for the Sooner Athletic Conference. She was also selected to the all-conference team all four years, two years as a first-teamer. She accomplished these honors playing three different positions in four years, freshman as a middle blocker, sophomore and junior as an outside hitter, and then took over the setting duties as a senior. Taryn still trains and plays in regions beach tournaments to this day.

Taryn began her playing career at Mustang High School, where she still holds almost every record in the history books. Her honors included being a nine-time all-tournament selection, recording the most kills in the state as a senior, as well as earning a place in the all-state team. Taryn played for Oklahoma Wind/Synergy Club where her team qualified for the Junior Olympics of USAV in three separate years.

Taryn currently resides in Surprise, Ariz., with her husband Kyle and their children, Kambria, Berklee, Kollisyn, and Stafford.
