Butte, Mont. – OUAZ Women's Volleyball wrapped up play at the Big Sky Challenge on Saturday, facing two of the tournament's toughest opponents in No. 6 Providence (Mont.) and host Montana Tech. The Spirit battled the nationally-ranked Argos before falling in straight sets and later closed the event against the Orediggers as they finished the weekend with a 1-3 record.
OUAZ leaves Butte with a 1-3 overall mark after earning a five-set victory over Indiana South Bend on Friday.
No. 6 Providence (Mont.) 3, OUAZ 0
(25-23, 25-19, 25-22)
The Spirit pushed the sixth-ranked Argos throughout the morning match and nearly stole the opening set before Providence escaped with a three-set victory.
OUAZ used an early 11-9 run in the first set to build momentum and eventually extended its lead to 21-18 following a kill by Bella Reach. Providence answered with a late 7-2 run, however, rallying for a 25-23 win.
The Argos carried that momentum into the second set, building a 21-14 advantage. The Spirit refused to go away, using a 5-0 run fueled by a service ace from Keira Adrian and consecutive kills from Marielle Ramos to cut the deficit to 21-19. Providence responded with four of the final five points to take a 2-0 match lead.
In the third set, OUAZ again found itself in front midway through the frame. The Spirit used a strong defensive stretch at the net to take a 21-20 lead after back-to-back blocks involving Gloria Moye, Delaney Wilson, and Marielle Ramos. Providence answered with a decisive 5-1 run to complete the sweep.

Despite the loss, OUAZ held advantages in digs (57-50) and stayed within three points in two of the three sets against the nationally-ranked Argos.
Montana Tech 3, OUAZ 0
(25-16, 25-15, 25-14)
The Spirit closed the tournament against host Montana Tech, which entered the match with a 4-1 record and used a balanced offensive attack to earn the sweep.
OUAZ kept pace early in the opening set, trailing just 7-4 before Montana Tech gradually built separation behind a .290 hitting percentage. The Orediggers later used a 7-0 run in the middle of the second set to turn a 15-12 lead into a commanding advantage.
The third set proved to be the most challenging for the Spirit as Montana Tech raced out to a 15-2 lead behind a strong serving run from Morgan Jones. OUAZ continued to compete and trimmed the deficit with late kills from Marielle Ramos, Elisa Saunders, and Bella Reach, but the Orediggers closed out the match.
Montana Tech finished the afternoon hitting .386 as a team, including a .500 mark in the final set.

OUAZ returns home next weekend to host the 2026 OUAZ Invitational beginning on Friday, Aug. 29. The Spirit will open the tournament against Westcliff at 11 a.m. before taking on Cumberland at 5 p.m. inside Faith Arena.
