Spirit Outlast Park Gilbert (AZ) in Hard-Fought Four Set Battle

Surprise, Ariz. — The Spirit faced a tough test against Park Gilbert in a match that demanded resilience from start to finish. With momentum constantly shifting and every set bringing a new challenge, OUAZ had to rely on depth, composure, and timely plays to come out on top. Backed by strong individual performances and key contributions in crucial moments, the Spirit battled through a competitive four-set match to secure an important win.

The Spirit came out firing in set one, setting the tone early with dominant play on both sides of the net. Horatio Maumasi was flawless, going a perfect 3-for-3 with a 1.000 hitting percentage while also contributing two big block assists at the net. Caeden Salmen added four kills to keep the offense rolling, but it was Treven Clizbe who completely changed the set from the service line. Clizbe caught fire with four aces, putting Park Gilbert on their heels and powering OUAZ to a convincing opening-set win.

Set two told a different story. Park Gilbert responded with intensity, turning it into a tight back-and-forth battle. Clizbe continued to shine with four kills, another ace, and even a solo block, doing everything he could to keep the Spirit in front. But despite the effort, Park Gilbert edged out the set in a close finish to even the match.

The third set was another war, but OUAZ showed resilience when it mattered most. Thomas Plaskett stepped in and made an immediate impact, delivering four kills and adding a block assist that helped swing key points in the Spirit's favor. Salmen continued his strong night with five more kills, providing a steady offensive presence. With timely plays and composure down the stretch, OUAZ pulled out the set to regain control of the match.

Set four was all heart. Both teams battled point-for-point, but the Spirit refused to let it slip. Clizbe added three more kills in crucial moments, while freshman Jackson Blair stepped up with three kills of his own, proving to be a reliable option under pressure. With the match on the line, OUAZ executed when it counted most and closed it out to secure the four-set victory.
