Fullerton, Calif. — OUAZ secured a doubleheader sweep over the Hope International Royals, rallying late in game one before dominating game two.
Game 1 — OUAZ 5, HIU 3
Game one was a tense battle that came down to the final inning. The Spirit found themselves trailing 0-3 heading into the seventh, needing a spark to stay alive. OUAZ delivered in dramatic fashion, erupting for five runs in the final frame. Nayeli Inzunza got the rally started by reaching on a fielding error that allowed Elysa Moreno and Kinzy Creighton to score. Moments later, Ava Seguin reached on a throwing error, bringing Nayeli Inzunza across the plate to tie the game. With momentum fully on their side, Alexis Rodriguez delivered the biggest swing of the game, ripping a bases-clearing double that brought home Alexis Jimenez, Ava Seguin, and pinch runner Elizabeth Luna to complete the comeback and secure the win.
Game 2 — OUAZ 5, HIU 0
Game two was a completely different story as the Spirit controlled the game from start to finish. OUAZ opened the scoring in the third inning when Kinzy Creighton delivered an RBI single to bring home Alexis Rodriguez. The offense really caught fire in the fourth inning, as Brianna Humphries and Ava Seguin each launched solo home runs to extend the lead. The Spirit added insurance in the seventh inning when Elysa Moreno roped a double that scored Kinzy Creighton and pinch runner Elizabeth Luna, sealing the second win of the day.
