Spirit Dominate in Straight-Set Sweep Over Soka

Aliso Viejo, Calif. — It was clear that the Spirit came ready to handle business, and they did just that in commanding fashion. The Spirit rolled past Soka (CA) in a clean 3-0 sweep (25-17, 25-15, 25-18), improving to an impressive 16-3 overall and 9-1 in conference play.

OUAZ set the tone early in the first set behind an aggressive service run from Horatio Maumasi, who rattled off multiple aces and helped spark a momentum shift that Soka never recovered from. Once the Spirit grabbed the lead, they never looked back. Owen Draeger and Jackson Blair were consistently putting balls away, while the front-row presence kept Soka's offense uncomfortable.

The second set was even more dominant. OUAZ jumped out fast and never let up, hitting efficiently and spreading the offense across multiple hitters. Jack Hubbard made the most of his opportunities with a blistering performance, while Treven Clizbe added energy from the service line with back-to-back aces that widened the gap. The Spirit's rhythm was undeniable, and Soka simply couldn't keep pace.

Soka showed a little fight early in the third set, briefly taking the lead, but OUAZ responded exactly how a top team should. Draeger stepped up in a big way, contributing key kills and even adding a service ace to swing momentum back. From there, the Spirit locked in defensively and closed things out with authority.

Statistically, OUAZ was dominant across the board—hitting .305 as a team compared to Soka's .062, while also piling up 11 service aces and 36 kills. Draeger led the way with 11 points and a strong all-around performance, while Maumasi was electric with 6 kills and 3 aces. Hubbard's near-perfect hitting night (.833) gave OUAZ a huge boost, and setter Jacob Rangel orchestrated it all with 18 assists.

This was one of those matches where everything just clicked—serving pressure, efficient offense, and disciplined defense. As a fan, you love seeing this level of execution heading deeper into the season.
