Surprise, Ariz. — The Spirit continued their strong run with a commanding 3-0 sweep over Benedictine Mesa, showcasing efficiency, depth, and dominance at the net from start to finish. The Spirit controlled the tempo throughout the match, using a balanced offensive attack and aggressive serving to overwhelm the Redhawks in straight sets.
Horatio Maumasi and Caeden Salmen led the way with outstanding performances, both putting together highly efficient nights offensively. Maumasi was nearly unstoppable, finishing the match hitting an incredible .800, while Salmen consistently delivered in key moments with his powerful swings and strong presence at the service line. AJ Scott also made a big impact behind the line, while Thomas Plaskett provided a spark off the bench to help seal the sweep.
Set 1 was an impressive showing for the Spirit, highlighted by the efficiency of Maumasi and Salmen. Maumasi went 5-for-6 on kills, hitting .667, while Salmen followed closely, going 4-for-5 at a .600 clip and adding a service ace. AJ Scott set the tone from the service line with two aces, helping OUAZ build early momentum and take control of the set.
Set 2 was more of the same as the Spirit continued to dominate. Salmen stayed hot with five kills and another ace, while Maumasi contributed two kills and two service aces to keep the Redhawks off balance. OUAZ's consistency and pressure from the service line made it difficult for Benedictine Mesa to find any rhythm.
The third set proved to be more competitive, but the Spirit rose to the challenge and closed out the match in style. Salmen added three kills, while Maumasi took over the set with six kills, capping off his dominant performance. Thomas Plaskett came off the bench and provided a key spark with a kill and an ace, helping OUAZ complete the sweep and secure another impressive victory.
