OUAZ Baseball Falls in Doubleheader to No. 12 Hope International, Splits Series

Surprise, Ariz.-- The OUAZ Spirit dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader against No. 12 Hope International, resulting in a series split with the Royals. With the pair of losses, OUAZ moves to 24-12 overall and 10-6 in GSAC play.

In game one, the Spirit fell behind early as Hope International used a pair of home runs in the first two innings to build a 5-0 advantage. OUAZ responded in the middle innings, breaking through in the sixth with three runs sparked by productive outs from Matthew Carter and Chaz Clemons. The Spirit added another run in the seventh to cut the deficit to one, but were unable to complete the comeback. The Royals added insurance in the ninth to secure the 8-4 win. Diego Quinonez delivered a strong outing despite taking the loss, tossing eight innings while allowing just three earned runs and striking out five.

Game two saw Hope International carry its momentum into a 11-2 victory in a seven-inning contest. The Royals steadily built their lead with runs in five different innings, highlighted by a three-run third and a three-run fifth. OUAZ's offense showed signs of life in the fifth inning, with Camden Knutson and Rolen Driscoll each driving in runs, but the Spirit were unable to generate further momentum against the Royals' pitching staff.

Across the doubleheader, OUAZ was limited offensively and could not overcome early deficits in either contest. Despite the setback, the Spirit secured a split against a nationally ranked opponent, continuing to position themselves competitively within the conference standings.

OUAZ will look to bounce back as they return to action on Thursday, March 26th, when they face GSAC rival Arizona Christian (ACU) in a 5:00 p.m. matchup.
