Riverside, Calif. — The Spirit and La Sierra split a Thursday doubleheader in Riverside, with La Sierra claiming the opener 6–3 before OUAZ bounced back with a 3–1 win in the nightcap.
Game 1 — OUAZ 3, La Sierra 6
La Sierra struck early and held off a late rally to take the first game of the twin bill.
OUAZ starter Brandon Enders settled in after the opening frame and kept the deficit manageable through five innings, but La Sierra added insurance in the sixth. Landon Criste delivered a two-run single to center, and another run scored when Dylan Akagi was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to extend the lead to 5–0.
The Spiirt finally broke through in the seventh inning when Trevor Lesperance singled to center to score Evan Mendoza. The Spirit closed the gap further in the eighth as Mendoza lined a two-run single to left, bringing home Jake Blair and Camden Knutson to cut the deficit to 5–3.
La Sierra answered in the bottom half of the inning, pushing across an unearned run on a fielder's choice and error to restore a three-run cushion. Reliever Jayden Jones handled the final two innings to secure the save.
Game 2 — OUAZ 3, La Sierra 1
The Spirit responded in the second game behind a dominant outing from Diego Quinonez and a late offensive surge.
La Sierra took an early lead in the second inning when Jose Leon dropped down a bunt single that brought home Logan Kim for a 1–0 advantage.
From there, Quinonez took control. The right-hander struck out 11 batters and allowed just five hits across a complete-game performance, keeping the Spirit within striking distance.
OUAZ finally broke through in the seventh inning. Joel Esparza delivered a pinch-hit RBI single to tie the game, scoring Devin Duque. Moments later, Lesperance doubled down the left-field line to plate Rolando Ramos Jr. and give OUAZ its first lead of the day. Kasey Regala followed with a single to center to drive in Lesperance and extend the lead to 3–1.
Quinonez closed the door in the bottom half of the inning, finishing the complete game and earning his third win of the season.
With the split, OUAZ moves to 20–10 on the season and 6-4 in conference.
