Pamona, Calif. — OUAZ women's soccer continued its winning ways on Thursday morning, earning a 3-1 road victory over the Life Pacific Warriors in Great Southwest Athletic Conference action. The win improves the Spirit to 3-3-3 overall and 2-2-2 in GSAC play as OUAZ secured its third consecutive victory.
The match belonged to Jocelyn Smith, who recorded a hat trick and provided all three goals for the Spirit offense. Smith opened the scoring in the 16th minute to give OUAZ an early 1-0 advantage. She struck again just three minutes later, doubling the lead with her second goal of the match on a header assisted by Grace Otero and sending the Spirit into halftime with a 2-0 cushion.
OUAZ maintained control after the break and added another insurance goal midway through the second half. Smith completed her hat trick in the 56th minute, pushing the lead to 3-0 and giving the Spirit all the offense they would need.
The Warriors avoided the shutout in the 75th minute, but the Spirit defense held firm over the final stretch to secure the conference road victory.
OUAZ generated consistent pressure throughout the contest, recording 14Â shots while earning four corner kicks. Smith led the attack with seven shots, while Anjeli DesRosier, Grace Otero, Desiree Dutra, Faith Rana, and Paytyn Okey all contributed offensive opportunities.
Defensively, Eerika Erjansalo earned the victory in goal, making two saves, while Adriana Duarte also saw time between the posts for the Spirit. The OUAZ back line limited the Warriors to just four shots on goal and kept Life Pacific scoreless until late in the second half.
The victory continues a strong turnaround after a challenging start to the season. OUAZ has now won three consecutive matches and has outscored its opponents 22-2 during that stretch.
The Spirit will continue their GSAC road trip on Saturday, Oct. 3, when they travel to Fullerton, Calif., to take on Hope International. Kickoff is scheduled for noon as OUAZ looks to extend its winning streak to four matches.
