Surprise, Ariz.- The OUAZ Spirit women's soccer team put together a hard-fought performance on Thursday night but ultimately came up short in a 2–0 loss to Park-Gilbert. With the result, the Spirit move to 2–6–0 overall and 1–3–0 in GSAC play, while the Buccaneers improve to 5–3–1 overall and remain unbeaten in conference action at 3–0–1.
Park-Gilbert wasted little time finding the back of the net, breaking through in the 14th minute when Kalei Ganotisi tallied her fifth goal of the season off an assist from Mikenzie Kulish. Just five minutes later, the Buccaneers doubled their advantage as Kulish scored her first goal of the year, this time set up by Yadira Bernal.
Despite the early deficit, the Spirit settled in and tightened up defensively. OUAZ held Park-Gilbert scoreless for the remainder of the match, limiting their opportunities and showing resilience in the back line. On the attack, the Spirit generated 10 total shots, though only two were placed on frame as they continued to search for a breakthrough.
The Spirit will look to bounce back quickly as they return home on Saturday, September 28, hosting Nelson Arizona in a 7:30 p.m. (MST) kickoff at Spirit Field. The matchup also marks Senior Night, and fans are encouraged to come out and show their support for the Spirit seniors!
