Waxahachie, Tex.- With the 4 game road trip officially underway, OUAZ football went down to Texas to take on Nelson University and even got the amazing opportunity to hold walk thrus in the Dallas Cowboys practice facility. The Spirit once again had a big first half on the way to a 28-7 victory. The team starts off strong at a bright (2-0) ahead of a matchup against Oklahoma Panhandle on September 20th.

The offense was rolling on all cylinders early with a big 3 touchdown lead at halftime. SAC Offensive Player of the Week, Luke Giron again got it done both on the ground and through the air. Giron was 14-21 for 224 yards and 1 touchdown. On the ground, he scrambled for 80 yards and added a 6-yard rushing touchdown where he got by 3 Nelson defenders. His ability to escape the pocket and immediately process coverages will make him an intriguing prospect for pro scouts come spring. The running game was a big part of the game plan instilled for this week as we saw Mason Dionne rush for 70 yards on 23 carries. Dionne, a true power back is able to find the gaps within blocks and absolutely truck defenders, causing him to garner an absurd amount of yards after contact. Wideout Marques Reese, continues to impress and be one of the biggest impact transfers for Coach Murphy and company. Reese, an absolute burner notched 133 yards on 5 catches with 2 touchdowns. For the second straight week, Reese has had the play of the game with another 60+ yard catch on a quick double move that had the corner absolutely lost. His first touchdown came an back shoulder grab where he made an amazing adjustment to locate the ball for the score. While, his second was a 4 yard rush in the redzone.

In just 2 games, we have seen Coach Dominquez's defense only give up one score on the way to being one of the best in the NAIA. The big 4 that consists of Tyler Ivy, Justice Sosnicki, Corey Floyd Jr., and Brayden Faber showed out for the second straight week. These 4 alone combined for 28 tackles, as Ivy and Sosnicki led with 8 each. Sosnicki also led the team with 2.5 sacks and a 20 yard fumble return while Labarron Kennedy Jr. trailed with 2 sacks. Defensive Player of the Week Floyd Jr. and Riley Pierce aided to the cause getting in the backfield consistently, with a combined 3 sacks. The front 7 played stellar once again holding Nelson to a mere 11 yards rushing, while forcing a combined 9 sacks and 2 fumbles. Coach D's gameplan on 3rd down created chaos as for a second straight week, the opposing team struggled going 5-14. The pass rush continues to work for a program that pumps out elite defensive lines and all SAC defenders. OUAZ will continue to remain hot in Week 3 as they will travel to Goodwell, Oklahoma to take on Oklahoma Panhandle in evening matchup at 4pm (MST).
