Spirit Split Doubleheader in Final Games of Regular Season

Surprise, Ariz.- OUAZ splits the doubleheader and the series overall with rival ACU as their record moves to 31-18.

Game one went the Spirit's way via walk-off in an exciting win.

The OUAZ offense got going in the fifth inning on a Nicholas Lustig 2 RBI double that took the lead at that time 2-1. The Spirit bats didn't see much action outside of that until Logan Meyer came up as the winning run in the ninth inning and hit an absolute missile to walk off ACU.

Gavin Burns was given the start in game one and shoved against the stellar ACU lineup. Burns went 5.2 innings while only allowing 1 earned run and striking out 4. Nate Naccarato tossed the last 3.1 innings and allowed 2 earned runs.

OUAZ couldn't use their momentum in game two and succumbed to an 11-2 defeat.

The Spirit offense was kept quiet in this one. Nicholas Lustig stayed hot with an RBI single in the first inning and Dane Fraser brought in another run in the fifth inning with a single of his own. The pitching for OUAZ couldn't silence the ACU bats and was blown up. Micah Del Rio got the start and went 4 innings only allowing 4 earned runs. The bullpen then allowed 7 earned runs in 3 innings of work.

OUAZ will continue their season on Monday, April 28th in the First Round of the GSAC Tournament at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Ariz. They will face the Firestorm once again in the 2-3 Matchup at 10 AM (MST). A win would mean they play on the 29th at Noon, against the winner of Hope International and The Master's, while a loss would mean they would play again on Monday at 6PM, where they would play a Win-Or-Go-Home game against the loser of HIU and TMU.
