Glendale, Ariz.- OUAZ Softball splits the doubleheader against ACU (22-22), with a game one loss of 1-9 and a game two victory of 6-0. The give the Spirit a 27–21 overall record, and a 5-15 record in conference play.
The Spirit would fall in game one 1-9 mercy rule in the 6th inning. The pitching for the Spirit struggled in this one, as Alexis Ayersman started the game, going only 2.2 Innings, allowing four runs on six hits, giving her the loss. Leila Elias came in and through 3 Innings of relief, where she allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits. The Spirit's offense was held quiet, as they scored one run on a sacrifice fly by Alexis Jimenez.
The Spirit would take game two behind a strong offensive and pitching performance with a 6-0 victory to earn the doubleheader split. In the circle, Stephanie Cortazar got the ball and had a great start to finish her freshman campaign as she went 7 Shutout Innings, allowing only three hits in the win. Savannah Sutton was the leading hitter for the Spirit as she went 2/4, with a run scored and two RBIs. Jimenez also contributed in game two as she went 2/4, with an RBI.
While the Spirit came up short of their ultimate goal, we would like to congratulate our OUAZ Softball team on putting together a strong season.
